Experts of RJ Reunolds Tobacco used a special tobacco blend, which quickly became popular and gained worldwide fame under the “American Blend” name. A distinctive feature of the bouquet was the addition to the classic blend of Burley tobacco sort, fermented with the latest technology of heat treatment to create a light caramel aftertaste.

These innovations were used to produce a new type of cigarette, which was named after the city where they were created. Thus, American smokers received a modern tobacco product. In 1954 Winston cigarettes saw the world and started to climb the path to glory.

The first advertising slogan of the company was: “Winston tastes good like a cigarette should”. There was an obvious grammatical error and the brand was flooded with accusations of illiteracy.

It is unknown whether the mistake was accidental or it was made intentionally, but it attracted attention to cigarettes. Then the second advertising slogan shot out: “What do you want, good grammar or good taste?”, and Winston's sales increased dramatically. For 2 years, Winston has become the most successful tobacco brand, and sales reached 21 billion cigarettes a year.

Currently, Winston cigarettes are in the top list of the most purchased cigarettes in the world. In United States their production is still in the RJ Reуnolds Tobacco Company, in other parts of the world it produced by other companies.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the global cigarette market has undergone important changes. The preferences of smokers have changed, the audience demanded new tastes and forms, so the company announced the release of an updated line of products with improved taste characteristics and sophisticated design.
